Peter Breiner, an author with an open mind, a sharp mind and a truly musical heart. Even the title of his charming toast to 'Herr Bach' captures the character of this author. The Sonata ostinata is based on the formal ground plan of the Classical sonata, but its themes and the way it develops its ideas also grow out of the tradition of the jazz piano trio. On the occasion of the Year of Czech Music, Breiner's original compositions are accompanied by a piano trio by Antonín Dvořák with the subtitle Dumky. The composer composed it immediately after the completion of the Requiem in the autumn of 1890. “It will be cheerful and sad. In some places it will be like a wistful song, here again like a cheerful dance, but in a lighter, so to speak, more popular style, in short, to make it for the higher and the lower.” It is precisely the “lightness of the style” that explains why this work is more popular than the supremely elaborate Piano Trio in F minor.
Alongside Peter Breiner will be Richard Harwood, principal cellist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Korean-Scottish violinist Esther Kim, also a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The oboe parts in Breiner's work will be performed by the young Slovak oboist Kristína Pláňavská, who is a member of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.
