The number of reprints and repeated editions testify to the importance of the Cithara Sanctorum, the first evangelical canon in our territory. It was published and compiled in 1636 by Juraj Tranovský, the “Slavic Luther”, who was mainly the creator of Latin and Bohemian religious literature. He compiled the hymnal from his own, German, Czech and Slovak hymns, thanks to which we can today get closer to the music of our ancestors.
Spiritual songs that have an extremely high value for the Slovak musical community will be performed by the ensemble Solamente Naturali, which, under the direction of Miloš Valent, has been trying for years to “restore the old music and its spirit” as faithfully as possible.
