Anton Webern was the most important engineer of a fundamental reform in 20th-century musical thought. His first official opus, however, is Passacaglia in the spirit of the old masters. Reportedly, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart did not hold the flute in high regard. Nevertheless, he accepted a financially tempting offer from the amateur Dutch flautist Ferdinand Dejean to write three concertos and some quartets for flute. Mozart was one of the most important models for Igor Stravinsky. His Symphony in three movements is his first major work after his emigration to the USA and contains many connections with the ballet The Rite of Spring, which the composer was revising at the time.
