A cultural nation is built gradually; if progressive ideas are brought by musicians for years, it will reflect on national pride, respect, promotion and certainly maturity. Czech musicians and composers have ensured such a flowering of the nation. The year 2024 was the Year of Czech Music; our neighbours started this tradition a hundred years ago on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the birth of Bedřich Smetana. He was an important link in history for the nation as it searched for a Czech musical identity in a rapidly developing world. The Slovak Chamber Orchestra created a programme to mark the occasion, paying tribute to several Czech composers and often violinists at the same time. The culmination of the concert in the work of Jaroslav Krček can be seen symbolically. Krček had conducted the orchestra several times in the past and performed this work with it.
