An experienced composer of expressive symphonies, Alexander Moyzes began to deal more intensively with the chamber genre in the mid-1970s. The latter allowed him to deepen his ability to deal more with detail and form. Musica Istropolitana for violin, string orchestra and harpsichord is a masterful reminiscence of the Baroque era. The Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks is one of the leading figures in world music. He came to the “big world” in the 1990s, despite political backlash, thanks to Gidon Kremer. Since then, he has offered a number of evocative compositions based on playing with sound and sonority, on Latvian folklore and on the need to purify people’s souls and minds from the ballast of the times. This is evidenced by his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 2 from 2012. In 1875, Antonín Dvořák received a state creative grant and was able to devote more time to his work. This positive breakthrough was reflected for the first time in the music of the masterful String Quintet in G major, a work that the composer himself held in high esteem.

SKO will be presented with cellist Ján Bogdan, a multiple winner of the New Europe Talent Award, a participant in masterclasses with sought-after masters of the instrument, and currently a student at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, Israel.
