Concert Hall of Slovak Philharmonic
The work of composer, pianist and adventurer Carl Maria von Weber culminated in three stage works. The fairy-tale singsong Oberon was written in collaboration with the famous Covent Garden in London and was a huge success. The qualities of Weber’s music did not escape the attention of Paul Hindemith, who was renowned for his tendency to matter-of-factness and constructivism. The Metamorphoses on Weber's themes, however, offer lush and expressive music with witty hints of jazz in the second movement. Luigi Cherubini’s suggestive Reviem Luigi Cherubini was given as part of the mournful commemorations of the execution of King Louis XVI. In addition, it was also played at the funeral of Ludwig van Beethoven.
