Johann Sebastian Bach devoted himself to the instrumental concerto genre quite often and systematically. The creation of many works of this kind is shrouded in mystery, despite the activity of biographers; manuscripts are lacking, or only fragments exist. What is certain is that Bach particularly admired the works of Antonio Vivaldi in the field of the solo concerto. In the case of the Brandenburg Concertos collection, however, he definitely broke away from the models and created a new model approaching in many details the symphonic projects of the future. The solo harpsichord cadenza in the Fifth Concerto is quite innovative. The keyboard instrument stepped out of the anonymity of the basso continuo section - signaling a new epoch.
