Johann Adolf Hasse is one of the outstanding representatives of opera music of the 18th century. He wrote the ‘Serenata’ Antonio and Cleopatra at the age of 26 and followed it with a number of successful titles. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in his own way, followed his work. Hasse stated on one occasion: ‘This boy will make the world forget us...’. The parody singspiel The Theatre Director had already been composed by the mature Mozart on the occasion of a gala luncheon hosted by Emperor Joseph II. The Piano Concerto in A major, KV 488 opened the gates with the genius composer's supreme concertante opus. Especially in the second movement Mozart expressively anticipates the distant future.
