The symphonic poem Finlandia by Jean Sibelius was originally part of seven fragments from the history of Finland. Later the author revised the work and performed it separately. The middle cantabile passage is still the unofficial anthem of Finland. The famous Concerto for Piano and Orchestra Edvard Grieg is the first major orchestral work by the Norwegian composer. Its qualities were also appreciated by Franz Liszt. The results of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s trip abroad to Scotland are the Third Symphony “Scottish” and the brilliant overture Hebrides. The Third Symphony captivates with a balladic atmosphere designed to capture the natural and historical realities of Scotland.
