The Iberian Peninsula is a unique geographical and cultural zone. In the second half of the 19th century, Spain in particular began to be a very fertile source of new inspirations. The Russian Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov became convinced of this during his voyages in the service of the Russian Admiralty. Manuel de Falla had the fiery blood of a Spaniard, but studying in Paris, his aim was to create an intersection of the two worlds. Nights in the Gardens of Spain is one such title. Although The Three-Cornered Hat is more "Spanish", this ballet premiered in Paris and Pablo Picasso took care of the artwork. Spain is spiritually connected to the Caribbean. Mexican composer Arturo Márquez’s fiery Danzón No. 2 is a musical firework with magical effect.
