Jan Klusák can be unreservedly described as a “jack of all trades”. Apart from music, he was also an actor and is still active as a writer. His role models in his youth were Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev, but later he promoted the latest avant-garde trends. However, he was no stranger to fin de siècle poetics, represented by, among others, Gustav Mahler. Mahler implanted his incandescent emotions into song cycles full of scepticism, sadness, hopelessness, disillusionment. Bohuslav Martinů was long committed to his first symphonic cycle. He felt a certain awe of this genre. After his forced emigration to the United States, however, he did not hesitate and offered a new symphonic title almost every year. The Fourth Symphony is a work of undisguised joy at the end of the Second World War.
