The Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates its 75th birthday! The festive concert will open with Carnival Overture, Op. 92 Antonín Dvořák’s - one of the most famous and most frequently performed compositions by the Czech master. Music critic Eduard Hanslick wrote after its Viennese premiere in 1895 that “in the exuberant carnival atmosphere of the overture, life pulses youthfully and urgently” – and so has the musical life of the orchestra for 75 years.
Understandably, Daniel Raiskin will be at the conductor’s podium at this special time.
The most important event, however, will be the premiere of Ľubica Čekovská. “My new work is inspired by the story of a building, the Redoubt, standing in the heart of the once coronation city... I find the depiction of the essence in Schopenhauer, according to whom rhythm is part of music and at the same time the pulse of life, and symmetry depicts perfection in the art of architecture. Schopenhauer refers to architecture as frozen music. On the contrary, music needs time for its life. And so, in the seven parts of a half-hour cycle, I sensitively 'unfreeze' my story of music, inspired by the internal and external influences of cultural and social events embedded in the heart of the Slovak metropolis.”
The work was commissioned by Gesamtkunstwerk with the support of UNIQA and the EPH Foundation.
