Cultural events in the Czech Republic and Slovakia were very closely linked, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. Many of our composers studied in Prague in the class of the passionate hiker and lover of the Tatras Vítězslav Novák. Those who were trained returned to Slovakia to create new schools in order to gradually become closer to their Czech brothers. At the concert, the division of Czechoslovakia will be commemorated with works by composers whose lives are closely linked to both countries. The Bratislava-born Johann Nepomuk Hummel wowed the Viennese with his virtuoso playing. His talent was also appreciated by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose stays in Prague always stirred up local life and it was here that the opera Don Giovanni was premiered. The established Czech cellist Jiří Bárta, who was for many years the curator of the Dvořák Prague Festival, will demonstrate his mastery of the works of Bohuslav Martinů and Antonín Dvořák. Slovak soprano Simona Houda Šaturová will perform in repertoire close to her heart, Mozart "...is my first choice and the love of my musical life... "
The Slovak Philharmonic dedicates the concert to the exceptional conductor and teacher Zdeněk Bílek, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday on 26 October.
